About us

Waters Dancing is a family owned & operated business which has produced kayak kits since the 1950s. We proudly brought North America's first precision cut stitch and glue canoe kit to market in 1972.

The company was established by the late Jim Moore in the 1950’s in Edmonton, Alberta. Although he was an aeronautical draftsman, boat building was truly his life’s work. Jim's son, Don, began his apprenticeship as a child with his father and he now has over forty years of experience in boat building and design.

In the early days, every design was done by hand. Back then, it took the better part of a year to do the designing, pattern making, prototyping, re-designing, building, manual writing, production and tooling to bring a boat kit to market.

Nowadays, our CAD program has sped up the task, but it still takes approximately six months to bring the boats from conception to completion.

Waters Dancing's manufacturing process produces state of the art CNC router cut panels that have a repeatable accuracy of .003 of an inch.

Our comprehensive manuals are on average 150 pages in length, and each customized manual contains approximately 150 photographs and detailed diagrams which help to guide the build.

Waters Dancing's attention to detail is unparalleled. Our designs blend functionality with beauty and performance, and we believe that the quality of our boats are unsurpassed in the boat kit industry.

It is our intention to make it possible for you to experience the deep fulfillment and satisfaction of wilderness travel -- a feeling that can be best gained while paddling a boat that was created with your own hands!

We have put together everything that you will need to create a world-class craft. Settle into your own beautiful customized kayak, slip out onto the water and feel the deep sense of peace that comes from being at one with nature.
